Welcome to Lakota Ridge!

Welcome to the Lakota Ridge Service Unit! Lakota Ridge supports troops in the West Chester area, including those attending Freedom, Heritage, Union and Endeavor elementary, Lakota Ridge Jr. School, Lakota Freshman School and Lakota West HS.

The purpose of the service unit is to provide girls with access to the Girl Scout program through the development and support of troops, troop leaders, and beyond-the-troop activities. Service units provide this support by organizing troops, providing program and training resources, and recruiting adult volunteers to work with girls in carrying out the Girl Scout program.

Next Leaders Meeting

The next leader's meeting is TONIGHT, February 7th from 7-8pm at Freedom Elementary.

What's New?

Below is a list of upcoming events in our Service Unit. Click on the link for more information.

Cookies

The theme for the 2007-2008 Cookie Campaign is “Ready, Set, Go!”  It challenges girls to set goals, make decisions, learn about themselves, and exceed expectations by providing them with tools needed through a girl-focused program. We hope all of the troops are out there selling cookies and enjoying themselves!

Now that the initial order taking is over, get ready for the cookie booths. There are still sites available to hold your cookie booth. Check out the council website for details.

All troop cookie managers can now log onto Cookieworks. User ID and Password are as follows: cookie managers first initial, last name and troop. All cookie managers need to change their password right away and fill out their troop info. They will need this site to order cookies and prizes.

Email Amy at mclyde@fuse.net with any questions.

Cookie shops: Are you a younger troop and don't want to do a cookie shop, but want your girls to experience how one works? Some of our older troops would love to have you join them! Let Karen Tucker know if you are interested in this activity -- younger or older troops. For older girls this is considered service hours. Note that the older troops would get the cookies from council and retain the proceeds. We want to use this as training and experience for younger scouts and their leaders.

For more information on the cookie sale, click here to check out the council website.

WE NEED YOU! Next year will be Amy Clyde's last year with us. If you are interested in taking over the Cookie Manager position, please let Karen or Amy know. We would like you to train with Amy during the 2008/2009 school year and then take over as SU Cookie Manager for the 09-10 school year.

LaserWeb Father/Daughter Event

Mark your calendars for the Laser Web Father/Daughter Event. Due to space limitations, we are offerring two different dates to accomodate as many groups as possible:

  • 5th Grade GS and Older: Saturday, February 23, 2008
  • Kindergarten through 4th Grade GS: Saturday, March 1, 2008

Both dates are held at Laser Web on 7285 Dixie Highway in Fairfield, from 9am to Noon. The cost is $15/couple and $7/additional GS.

Ø     This is a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED event. We are planning to limit the number of registrations for each date to 100.

Ø     We will play as many laser tag missions as we can fit in the 3 hours, realistically it’ll be 3-4 games depending on how quickly the groups can transition between stations. (Please tell your troops to listen for directions.)

Ø     We can play more advanced games as players improve.

Ø     We will rotate in three or four groups throughout the laser arena, arcade, and “Space Station”.

Ø     Additional game tokens can be purchased at 50% off during the event (8 tokens/$1).

Ø     Each couple is asked to bring something for the Space Station Café (I will let you know via email what to bring after all registrations are in).

Ø     Each couple is also asked to bring toiletries (K-4th) or canned/boxed goods (5th and up) to donate to Reach Out Lakota.

Ø     We are in desperate need of baby food jars or unwanted CDs! If you have any to donate, please contact Renee Stock. Any moms that can help out with this mission, please contact Renee – Thanks!

Mother/Daughter Event

Mark your calendar for April 19th for the Mother/Daughter event at Lakota West HS. Details to come!

Little Women Production

The Lakota West theater group is performing "Little Women" this spring. This relatively new musical, based on classic novel, features strong female characters which serve as excellent role models for the young women of today. The play would be a good troop activity. Lakota West is the first high school in the tri-state area to perform this magnificent musical. Their theatre program has been recognized for excellence at the local and state level, and the shows draw sell out crowds. Check out their website to see what they are all about. If you are interested in a GS field trip, see the flyer. You can also contact Paula Dolloff for special group rates:

It's time for GIRL SCOUT NIGHT at Xavier women's basketball!!

This year, the event will be held prior to and during the women's basketball game on Wednesday, February 27th when the Musketeers take on A-10 rival Dayton. The game is at 7pm, but the Girl Scout events will begin at 6pm, and include a free cheerleading clinic with Xavier cheerleaders and mascots, meet-and-greet and open gym with current Xavier student-athletes, and COOKIES! This event is celebrating the delivery of your cookie boxes :) In addition, all girls that learn a cheer during the clinic will be able to perform it on the court at halftime.

Please see the flyer for more information.

Twilight Camp

For Twilight Camp we are making Olympic Torches, please save your paper towel tubes. If someone has a flag for China, Germany, and Brasil we would like to borrow them for the week. Not a small flag something big. If you have costumes or other items that represent each of these countries we would be interested. Please let Karen or Julie know.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR and CRAFT person needed! We are in desperate need of someone to be in charge of crafts and to act as Program Director for camp this summer. Everything is already picked out for each day. We need someone to head up the crafts each day by making sure everything is set up and ready to go. You will have two Cadette/Seniors to help you. Program director will work with Julie and I to decide what time we do what and who does what and when.
